Concise History On Common Law

Common law - The common law forms a major part of the law of many countries, especially those with a history as British territories or colonies. It is notable for its inclusion of extensive non-statutory law reflecting precedent derived from centuries of judgments by judges hearing real cases.
Burglary (history) - The original common law definition of burglary consisted of six specific elements: "breaking and entering the dwelling of another during the night with the intention to commit a felony therein". To a greater or lesser extent, these elements have been replaced in the various common law coountries (see burglary.
Civil law (common law) - In the common law, civil law refers to the area of law governing relations between private individuals. It also is used to describe all law outside of the criminal law context.
Federal common law - Federal common law is a term used in the United States to describe common law that is developed by the federal courts, instead of by the courts of the various states. Although the United States Supreme Court has effectively barred the creation of federal common law in areas traditionally under the authority of state courts, there are several areas where federal common law continues to govern.
