Adversary proceeding - An Adversary Proceeding, in bankruptcy, is a lawsuit, in the American legal system, filed by a party called a "plaintiff" against a party called a "defendant." See also Bankruptcy in the United States.

Interference proceeding - An interference proceeding, also known as priority contest, is an inter partes proceeding to determine the priority issues of multiple patent applications. It is a unique patent law concept of the United States.

Adversary - In cryptography, an adversary (rarely opponent, enemy) is a malicious entity whose aim is to prevent the users of the cryptosystem from achieving their goal (primarily privacy, integrity and availability of data). An adversary's efforts might take the form of attempting to discover secret data, corrupting some of the data in the system, spoofing the identity of a message sender or receiver, or forcing system downtime.
